CLAYCOMO, Mo. — Thursday was a big day for a 9-year-old Caden McGuire of Claycomo, Mo. That’s because his town’s police department granted him a wish.

Caden was diagnosed with a melanoma tumor in his brain at age five. He’s undergone several surgeries, radiation treatment, and chemotherapy. Hearing about Caden’s health problems, Sgt. Marcus Burke with Claycomo Police, took it upon himself to take Caden under his wing.

On Thursday, Caden toured the police department, jumped in a police cruiser and hopped on the horn and spoke with police dispatch. He then cruised over to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Overland Park, Kan., with Sgt. Burke.

In June 2011, Burke invited Caden to get his picture with an officers and hop aboard a motorcycle. Caden also took the oath of office and received a holster and police T-shirt.

More recently, Caden qualified for clinical trials at Children’s Mercy and will undergo treatments for the next six to 12 months.
