PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. — A 14-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday night.
The incident was reported just after 6:30 p.m. near 45 Highway and Grass Pad Road.
Platte County Sheriff’s investigators said the 14-year-old was in a car with his family when some kind of argument happened. The boy got out the car and started walking when he was hit by a truck.
Investigators said the teen was walking in the same direction as the truck that hit him. The driver of that truck stayed at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators.
“‘That vehicle did remain on scene and the driver is speaking with investigators,” Maj. Erik Holland with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office said. “At this point, we have no reason to believe that alcohol or drugs were involved.”
Officials said the teen was from the Weston area and died on the scene.
The crash shut down a large stretch of 45 Highway for several hours Wednesday night. At this point, investigators don’t believe Wednesday night’s snowy conditions played a part in the crash, but Holland said they’ll continue to investigate.
