KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- MODot crews have been working diligently to repair a bridge that will make traveling to Kauffman Stadium easier for baseball fans.

The 40 Highway bridge sits between Van Brunt and Manchester Trafficway and carries traffic over the Blue River.

The bridge is set to reopen Friday around 5 p.m., which will make the commute for those going to opening day at The K a little less hectic.

"We've been watching this bridge for a long time and it's gotten older and order, rusting and corroding," Brian Kidwell of  MODot said. "Last year during an annual inspection, we figured it was time to close it. It was unsafe, especially for the heavy loads that travel 40 Highway. We just couldn't take that risk, so we had to close it."

The bridge closed a few months ago. Since then, crews have been working to remove the bridge and build a new one in its place.
