INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A 6-year-girl was rushed to an area hospital Friday evening after she was struck by a vehicle while riding her bike.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area of East 30th Terrace and Lee's Summit Road after the victim reportedly lost control of her bike while coming downhill on the sidewalk along E. 30th Terrace just before 7 p.m.

Witnesses said she was going fast and lost control as she reached Lee's Summit Road. That's where witnesses said she went under a truck and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Emergency crews reportedly performed CPR before rushing her to Centerpoint Medical Center, and later transferred to Children's Mercy Hospital.

The driver is cooperating with police. Police said there was nothing the driver could have done.
