KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Raped in her own home, a 91-year-old woman breaks her silence, hoping to help find the man who attacked her. That man, caught on a neighbor’s surveillance camera, running from the woman’s home.
Detectives are still searching for the man. FOX 4 is keeping her identity private. The 91-year-old says as he is still on the run, she lives every single day in fear.
“I was sound asleep and something woke me up,” she said.
She grips the arms of a rocking chair, as the 91-year-old widow recalls, what she describes as the scariest night of her life.
“I thought at first I was having a nightmare. Then it moved and I knew it wasn’t a nightmare. I screamed,” she recalled.
She trembled as the man dressed head to toe in black, walked toward her bed. He put a pillow over her face and got on top of her.
“The next thing I know, he was rubbing my shoulder. Rubbing his hand up and down my side. I closed my eyes even though the pillow was still over face. And let my arms drop and held my breath.”
The man raped the 91-year-old. Then minutes later, ran out of the home. A camera was rolling across the street and caught footage of the suspect running from the home.
“You cannot believe that anybody is so perverted to do something like that. To anybody let alone a 91-year-old.”
The woman’s niece, Vicky, has been staying with her and is in the process of helping her move out. Vicky says her aunt is not the same person she was before the attack. This has changed her.
“It breaks my heart. Sometimes she just stares,” Vicky said.
The suspect didn’t steal anything from the home, but has stolen the security and life from a 91-year-old woman.
“It’s a terrible feeling.”
“I just want people to be aware. He’s out there. If he’s done it once to her he will do it to anybody,” Vicky said.
Detectives have evidence from the scene, including a large knife the suspect dropped as he ran out of the home. If you know anything about this call Crimestoppers at (816) 474-TIPS.
