INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed on Monday afternoon due to a serious collision at Little Blue Parkway where four people were injured.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Monday a crash involving three vehicles was reported to police. The accident caused significant backup on the interstate.
Police said the crash occurred during heavy rain when a delivery truck struck the back of an SUV who was slowing down because of traffic congestion. The SUV, which had two people inside, was shoved into the back of another truck after being hit.
A FOX 4 photographer who was at the scene said a woman who was riding in the backseat of the SUV had to be cut out of it.
A tow truck driver at the scene told FOX 4 that one of the trucks had three dogs riding inside, however he did not think the dogs looked like they would survive.
The woman who was cut out of the vehicle was taken to an area hospital for emergency surgery, and an elderly man who was involved in the crash has been listed in seriously condition. The drivers of the two trucks were also injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
