KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Thirty teams of fifth graders entered a two-mile race on Friday against some Kansas City, Kan. grown-ups, their superintendent and even newly elected Mayor Mark Holland.

The race started at 10 a.m. at Kansas City, Kan. Community College and ended at the Washington High School stadium.

The event is the district's second annual race to exercise their minds and bodies.

"We want our kids to believe they can do anything they want as long as they work hard and focus," said Cynthia Lane, superintendent of Kansas City, Kan. Schools.

The team with the most kids to cross the finish line before the superintendent won a special plaque.

Some of the fifth graders completed their two miles in ten to eleven minutes.
