OLATHE, Kan. — Prosecutors say a 70-year-old Johnson County taxi driver raped his passenger after picking her up in Westport. The woman had been drinking and told police she was “overcome by force and fear.”

Abdul Sayed worked as a taxi driver for Atlas Cab for nearly 10 years. That’s why his boss, Mohammed Noor, said he was shocked when police showed up making some frightening allegations about Sayed.

“I called him and I asked him, what’s going on what happened?” Noor recalled.

Police say a woman was leaving Missie B’s in Westport one night in December, when Sayed pulled up in his cab. She got into the taxi and Sayed drove her to a location in Mission. At some point, during the drive, prosecutors allege that Sayed raped the woman. Charges in the case were filed Friday.

“He told me he picked up the passenger drunk. Gave ride home. That’s all he said,” Noor advised.

Noor said Sayed denied the allegations when questioned by police. He stands behind Sayed and says he has the technology to prove it. Noor has a system that shows each taxi. It tracks when the cab picks up and drops off. Noor claims Sayed picked up the woman at Missie B’s and drove her to 58th and Mission, a three-mile drive. Noor says the tracking system shows Sayed’s cab never stopped along the route and got to the destination in nine minutes. He said the system shows Sayed’s cab immediately leaving after the drop off.

“Myself, I believe my system,” Noor said.

But prosecutors don’t. They charged Sayed with rape and aggravated criminal sodomy. After some digging, FOX 4 found this wasn’t Sayed’s first charge on the job. He was charged with sexual battery in 2009. Noor said Sayed touched a passenger and lost his license for a few months, but when Sayed got it back, Noor let him come back to work.

“Did you ever think while this was going on that you should’ve fired him then?” FOX 4’s Megan Brilley asked.

“Basically after that I don’t see anything wrong with this man,” Noor said.

Noor fired Sayed three months ago, but not because of these allegations. He saidit was because passengers complained about Sayed’s driving.

Sayed’s bond is set at $500,000. He’s due back in court on June 2.
