ST. LOUIS -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Louis was surprised when workers collecting donations discovered a two-week-old puppy in a donation drop box.

Normally, the Big Brother Big Sisters drop boxes are filled with clothing, toys, books and other items to be used by the charity to give to the children they serve. But when drivers showed up to pick up the donations on Wednesday, they heard a squeaking sound inside.

When they began unloading the box they were shocked by what they found under several pounds of clothing.

“Me and my coworker, we open up the bin and we're cleaning out the clothes and we hear a little bit of a squeak, and just like normal we thought it was a kid's toy making some squeaking noise in the bins, you know, we were moving stuff around and stopped for a second so I'm unloading a few more bags, a few more bags and then the sweatshirt started moving and out comes a little baby pit bull. So yeah it was crazy, it was weird, it was unbelievable,” said the worker.

The donations are picked up once a week, so no one really knows how long the puppy was inside the hot, metal box.

The puppy is now at a St. Louis area animal hospital getting checked out.
