ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Missouri Highway Patrol said a body was found in a pond near Banker’s Crossing and 59 Highway on Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to the pond on a report of car in the water at about 7:45 p.m. The car was removed with no one found inside, but a further search of the water ended with the discovery of a white male’s body. Police identified the body as 48-year-old Ezequiel Contreras-Vasques of St. Joseph, Mo.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control will be leading the investigation.

Autopsy results are pending.
