KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A suspect is in critical condition with a gunshot wound after he was shot by police in a downtown Kansas City parking garage Monday afternoon.
Police say the suspect was with three others when they took a car at gunpoint from a driver at a car wash in Kansas City, Kan. The suspects fled in the vehicle. Kansas City, Kan., police later saw the vehicle and pursued it into Kansas City, Mo., where it stopped at 11th and Oak. There, all four of the suspects tried to run. Kansas City, Kan., police took two into custody and Kansas City, Mo., police took the third suspect into custody. They encountered the fourth suspect in the parking garage.
"Commands were disregarded. Shots were fired," said Stacey Graves, Kansas City, Mo., Police Dept.
Graves says they recovered a shotgun and handgun at the scene.
"In this situation.. if suspects are fleeing police, are known to be armed, just hours ago committed an armed carjacking, it's a dangerous situation. They're already disregarding law enforcement. For them to flee the vehicle, that's another even more dangerous situation," said Graves.
Graves did not have the condition of the carjacking victim in Kansas City, Kan.
Police confirmed the gunfire and a police source told Fox 4 that the suspects fled into a parking garage there, where a Kansas City, Mo., police officer shot one suspect, who is reportedly not seriously injured.
Witnesses reported hearing four shots. One witness said it looked like the suspect was shot in the shoulder.
