KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Students at one east Kansas City elementary school rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty as they learned about gardening.

The students at Center Elementary School planted a vegetable garden with a little help from some big league athletes.

Members of the Kansas City Chiefs came out to help the fourth graders, who have been learning about plant growth in class, plant a vegetable garden.

“Gardening, it may seem easy, but it’s kind of one of those things that we probably take for granted, because I mean, it’s essential for us to live, and that’s growing plants and growing foods that we need,” Chiefs wide receiver Frankie Hammond said.

Kansas City Community Gardens helped the school get the project started.
