KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Back by popular demand, Chocolate Ale has returned to the Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City, Mo.

“We tweaked it, we try to make it better all the time,” Steven Pauwels, Boulevard brewmaster, said. “We did some things to extract the cocoa nuts a little better by making some adjustments in our process.  I think it’s a little deeper in cocoa flavor than it has been in the past.”

And in previous years, the brewery ran out.

“We thought, maybe we can’t make this enough, maybe we can’t satisfy our customers, so we took a year off and made coffee ale, which was a success,” Pauwels said. “And then over the last two years, people come to our tours and we get the same question over and over: when is chocolate coming back?  So we just gave in and made it again.”
