GRANDVIEW, Mo. -- It's been two days since a Kansas City woman and a 14-month-old girl died when in a Grandview house fire. Investigators ruled the fire as arson -- news the family found disturbing and devastating.

"I really have to stay strong. I'm trying not to cry," Kiana Hobley said.

Fighting back tears, Hobley says she and her family are perplexed by the mystery of how her 37-year-old mother Anika Hobley and a 14-month-old baby died in a Grandview house fire.

"She was just there for me all the time, there for all of her kids. She loved her kids," Kiana said. "It's really hard."

Kiana says she last saw her mom Sunday evening at their home in Kansas City. Later that night Kiana says while she slept, someone apparently came by and picked up her mother.

"She was at home Sunday asleep, for real. I don't understand why she got up and left."

The next day police told Kiana and her three younger siblings that their mom was found dead in the basement of the Grandview home at the time of the fire.

Investigators say the 14-month-old -- who died at the hospital -- lived in the home with her family.

Kiana says she doesn't know the Grandview family.

"And I don't know who this guy is, whose house she was at," Kiana said. "I never heard of him. And I feel for the family of the baby too, but at the same time, I'm like how do you get stuck in the basement? I don't understand it."

She also says her mother was not babysitting the children who live at the home.

Kiana says her mother worked for a temp agency.

"She was getting ready to go to the work Monday to work for the Chiefs," Kiana said. "You know, her clothes and stuff were laid out on the chair."

"It's still like my brother said a painful mystery."

No one has been arrested for setting the fire, and police say the exact cause of Hobley and the baby's deaths remain under investigation.
