INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Detectives with the Kansas City, Mo. Police Department searched the Independence home of the man who punched another man in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot on Sunday.

Kyle Van Winkle, 30, of Smithville, Mo., collapsed and died a short time later. Authorities await autopsy results to determine how he died.

Authorities obtained a search warrant to enter the home in the 400 block of North Ponca Drive in Independence, Mo., but later released the three people they were questioning about the fight.

Police responded to Lot A at the Truman Sports Complex at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday, during the game against Denver.

Police were told Van Winkle was inside a vehicle that didn’t belong to him. When the owner of the car discovered him, they fought and the man collapsed.

“I know it had nothing to do with the actual game itself. Everything happened out here in the parking lot,” said Darin Snapp, police spokesperson. “The witnesses say that there were no guns or anything.”
