BOSTON — Surveillance video captured a dramatic, split-second rescue of a man trying to jump onto subway tracks in Boston.

The video shows a man walking to the edge of the platform at Boston’s Park Street Station on Wednesday. After a few moments he starts to jump, but a quick-thinking transit cop snagged him in mid-air and yanked him back to the safety of the platform.

Detective Sean Conway is being hailed a hero for his role in preventing the man from being injured — or worse. Police said the next train wasn’t due to arrive for several minutes, but there was a high chance the man could have landed on the electrified third rail.

Police believe the man was suicidal and had been drinking. Conway said since the incident the man has expressed his gratitude for saving him.
