KANSAS CITY, Mo --- Welcome to the Screening Room, the home video edition. I'm Russ Simmons. Shawn Edwards will be back next week.

Here’s what’s new in video stores or available for digital download this Tuesday, December 11th.

Jason Bourne may still be missing, but another genetically souped-up covert agent is out there, too. Jeremy Renner stars in the fourth installment in the “Bourne” franchise, “The Bourne Legacy.”

Shawn calls it, “Exhausting and a bit lackluster. Not nearly as good as the Matt Damon joints.”

It’s got action, intrigue and atmosphere to spare and an intelligent script, to boot. The only thing holding it back is the heavy back-story that prevents this edition from fully succeeding on its own.

“Ted” is an exceptionally raunchy R-rated comic fantasy is about a grown man, played by Mark Wahlberg, whose teddy bear magically came to life while he was a child. Now, as an adult, Mark’s hard partying and drug addled toy causes him a boatload of problems.

Shawn says, “Ted be trippin' and he's funny.  Seth McFarlen, the writer/director and the voice of Ted, is a genius. Best comedy of the year.”

“Ted” is wrong in oh, so many, many ways, so you may be ashamed of yourself for laughing…but laugh you will.

Disney offers up a very sweet natured and sentimental flick called “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton play wannabe parents who are unable to conceive. When they bury a box full of wishes in their backyard garden, the 10-year-old boy of their dreams miraculously springs to life.

Shawn calls it, “A weird and overly sappy half-baked fable.”

Maybe, but a solid cast and thoughtful direction nearly make up for the story’s awkwardness. Although it’s a near miss, “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is still an enjoyable oddity.

“Ice Age: Continental Drift” is the fourth entry in the animated prehistoric series. Shawn took the bullet for us on this one and he says, “Please, no more these. Can't tell the movies apart anymore.”
