Explosives discovered in KCK field

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — After two people discovered explosives in a field Thursday night, authorities determined they were old industrial explosives and performed a controlled detonation.

The discovery was made near 79th and Kaw in Kansas City, Kan. around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Authorities said the explosives were likely the kind used for rock quarries and appeared to have been exposed to the elements for some time.

No one was injured in the controlled detonation and no homes were located near the find.
