KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As police continue to search for the person who killed 41-year-old Charles Bradford.
It’s been a week since the father of two was gunned down, and now groups around the city have stepped up to canvas neighborhoods, searching for anyone or anything that might help bring the killer to justice.
Bradford’s family knocked on doors in the same neighborhood he was killed in last weekend.
Police responded to a report of a shooting near 57th Street and Michigan around 2 a.m. last Sunday.
There they discovered Bradford, who had been shot. He was also transported to a hospital, but died of his injuries.
His father said Charles was a loving man who spent as much time as possible at his church.
His family finds comfort in Bradford’s faith.
“Charles was a religious man,” said a loved one. “He joined Mount Sinai Church at the age of ten years old, and he’s been there up until heaven called.”
The Ad Hoc Group Against Crime canvassed the neighborhood with the family, knocking on doors and passing out flyers, and asking people to call police if they have any information.
Brandon Mims with Ad Hoc Group Against Crime said picking up the phone does not make someone a snitch. It’s a chance to help the community.
“If you see something happen, you’re a witness, a snitch would be somebody who’s already in custody who tells on somebody else to get a reduced charge,” Mims said.
Bradford’s broken-hearted family hopes an arrest is just around the corner.
