KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- It's a balancing act: the need for safety vs. the real world baseball experience. The Royals took extra steps in the offseason to ensure fan safety at Kauffman Stadium by installing new netting in areas at the park.

While some fans say the netting is important, there were some who said it does somewhat obscure the view and overall detracts from the experience of being at the game.

Every year, dozens of baseball fans are injured from baseball batted into the stands at ballparks across the country. Anyone who has been struck by a ball can tell you, they pack a punch.

The new netting came at the urge of the Office of the Commissioner, who told all Major League teams to make fan safety a top priority.

Still, that comes at a price for those longtime season ticket holders, who have had the same, unobstructed view for years.
