KANSAS CITY, Kan. –A fiery tractor-trailer crash on I-670 in KCK is slowing down traffic Wednesday morning.

The accident happened right off eastbound I-70 at the I-670 curve. Police say around 2:45 a.m., the semi and a light-colored SUV collided.

KCK police are handling the investigation and they hope to clear the wreckage from the interstate as soon as possible. But considering the fire destroyed the trailer to the tractor-trailer, it could take a while to clear all of the burnt metal and ash. Also a portion of the tractor-trailer is hanging over the overpass. Crews say they fear a portion of the tractor-trailer falling on traffic below if they try to pull it off the guard rail.

Police say only one person suffered minor injuries.

So far, police are not sure who was at fault – that is still under investigation, but they say the tractor-trailer, carrying turkey sausage, veered into the concrete barrier and caught fire. It took firefighters more than an hour to put the flames out.

Officers say if you usually take I-670 into downtown Kansas City, you’ll need to find an alternate route Wednesday until clean up is complete.
