PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. — Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a tractor-trailer to go up in flames along northbound I-29 near I-435 Thursday.

It was around 7:45 a.m., when the entire cab of the tractor-trailer became engulfed in flames along Exit 17, which is just north of KCI Airport.

Before firefighters arrived on the scene, the driver could be seen standing near the burning tractor-trailer as black smoke and flames poured out.

Once on the scene, firefighters approached the burning vehicle, but a minor explosion caused them to jump back. Thankfully, the tank of the truck never caught on fire and no one was injured, but hazardous chemicals in the trailer prompted extra caution and a Hazmat team to be called in.

As of 12:30 p.m., Exit 17 was still closed.
