PARKVILLE, Mo. — English Landing Park was closed on Saturday because of flooding. Dozens of people showed up throughout the day and were turned away by police.

At least two families who paid to rent out a portion of the part for graduation parties had to find a new place to go.

“The City of Parkville called and said the vehicular crossing had closed so we had to make some last minute plans,” said Brenda Yoakeum-Kriz, who was supposed to have her son’s graduation party at the park. “We came down here to put a sign up to tell everybody that it’s not going to be at the park and to come to our house instead.”

Yoakeum-Kriz said she believes the city will refund her the money she put down.

Police said they were ticketing people who they found going into the park and ignoring the signs. Officers said a park violation can cost someone $130.

They told FOX 4 the water at the entrance of the park was four to five feet deep.

A sign and barriers are sitting at park entrances to warn people not to go inside. It’s unknown when the park will be able to reopen.
