FORT OSAGE, Mo. — A Fort Osage firefighter died Sunday night while responding to a call.

Assistant Chief Harold Hollingsworth, 47, was en route to a structure fire during active severe weather on Atherton Road when he was involved in a single-vehicle accident, striking a tree. Hollingsworth was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Hollingsworth was a 16-year veteran of the department and was promoted to Assistant Chief in December 2010.

A spokesperson for the fire department said Hollingsworth was a valued member of the Fort Osage Fire Protection District and served his community with honor and integrity. Hollingsworth leaves behind a loving family.
