KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A metro woman's twin sister was shot and killed while the victim's children watched. Thursday night, the kids had to say to goodbye to their mom.

Denise Gayle, 31, was found shot to death in her metro apartment nearly one week ago. Her boyfriend, Derrick Williams, was arrested and charged. Thursday night, Gayle's children stood in tears, as family and friends honored their mom.

Investigators say Gayle's kids witnessed the murder and the suspect even put a pistol in one of their mouths. Gayle's children were at the vigil Thursday evening.

Family and friends spoke in honor of the 31-year-old and released balloons. Family tells FOX 4 they hope Gayle's tragic story will reach someone who is in a domestic violence situation and they will get help. More than anything, family hopes Gayle's children will make it through this.

"It saddens me. It hurts me that six children are left without a mother. Some of them are so small that they won't even remember that bond or relationship that every child deserves to have with their mom," Kulea Guess said.

Williams is charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action and child endangerment. Williams is being held at the Jackson County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
