LIBERTY, Mo. — Could Missouri be the next state to legalize marijuana? A group called ‘Show-Me Cannabis’ sure hopes so. Members held a town hall in Liberty on Wednesday night.

They said efforts to stop marijuana use have been a waste of time and law enforcement officers have more serious things to worry about. But they say it’s getting politicians on board, not just in Missouri, that’s the obstacle to legalization.

“There’s challenges all over because politicians are kind of resistant to this politicians they love to lead from behind in this case so even if they’re supportive they don’t want to get personally involved with it,” John Payne, Executive Director of the group, said.

Group members say they hope to build support for a statewide referendum, allowing voters to decide the issue as soon as 2014 or 2016.
