KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The long-awaited opening of the new Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway is set for this week, as Kansas officials hope that the state-run casino becomes a new economic engine for Wyandotte County.
The 100,000 square-foot casino, which overlooks turn two at the Kansas Speedway, will officially open to the public on Friday at 11:00 a.m. But on Monday, the facility will host invited guests for a day of charitable gaming for invited guests, with proceeds benefitting the Sunflower House and the Kansas City, Kansas School Foundation for Excellence.
Casino officials say that the event will also serve as a controlled demonstration for state regulators to ensure that all internal controls and operations are ready for the casino’s public opening later in the week.
The casino – the first Las Vegas-style casino in the metro – will feature 2,000 slot machines and 52 table games.
Officials are hoping that the casino will attract up to four million customers a year from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. It’s expected to have an economic impact of $220 million annually.
