KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Movie memorabilia is up for sale in the metro this weekend. It’s from the estate of former FOX 4 movie critic Doug Moore, who died in 2010. Now his family is selling part of his movie collection.
From hundreds of autographed pictures to more than 800 movies, there’s a little something for everyone. Moore lived life doing what he loved — teaching film and music.
“He lived his life quite vicariously and what he did was he brought Hollywood to Kansas City,” Moore’s friend, Jack, said.
Now that Moore has passed, friends say his memory will live on through his collection.
“We’re getting to sell his amazingly curated film collection. 16 mm and 18 mm films and get to talk to all these awesome people about their passions in film,” Calli Parker with Absolute Estate Sales said.
In addition to working as a FOX 4 film critic, he also was a professor at UMKC. Now his massive collection is up for sale, and there are calls coming in from around the world about it.
“It took me three times going around to absorb it all. And even now, I could spend half the day here and not have uncovered everything,” Parker said.
You’ll find everything from Frankenstein posters to musical instruments. Some items are worth more than others.
“’The Ecstasy’ with Hedy Lamarr is a fairly pricey film,” Parker said.
Many at this estate sale are collectors. And they’re finding unique items because of the personal relationships Doug created with celebrities.
“Lillian Gish and he had a long-standing correspondence where they would eat lunch together and she would sign things and she would tell him stories of all the golden age of cinema classics,” Parker said.
Doug’s friends say it’s sad to see someone’s life end. But, in his case, the things he’s left behind are making other people happy.
“So his life will just continue to live endlessly. All of this so that kind of makes it a little more pleasurable and enjoyable than to just see something end,” Jack said.
The estate sale is over for Thursday, but it continues Friday and Saturday from nine to five each day. You can find it at the Westport Shopping Center near Southwest Trafficway and Westport Road. For more information about the sale, click on this link.
