KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Saturday, the show Family Feud traveled to Kansas City for the first time to hold auditions. Out of the nearly 5,000 email applications, 700 metro families were picked to audition this weekend.

Sarah Dansby, the casting director for the show, said it is not an easy task to narrow down the contestants, but there are certain things they look for.

“Watching them really, truly having fun together. But it is the little moments they have together that are fun. When someone’s mother gives a funny answer and she gets a look… or when you see them hug in a really true family moment. I think those are my favorite,” Dansby said.

The Shields family waited hours to be the first people in line Saturday morning.

“It is an opportunity and my sister came from Atlanta, Georgia. My aunt came from St. Louis. It is an opportunity for us to fellowship and make memories as a family,” said one member of the Shields family.

In the next several weeks, the winning families will receive a post card in the mail inviting them to visit the studio in Atlanta to begin filming.
