MERRIAM, Kan. — Burning incense appears to have caused significant damage to a Merriam, Kan., home Wednesday.
Firefighters were dispatch just after 1:30 a.m., upon reports of a fire at a home in the 4800 block of Knox.
Fire investigators say the fire started in a first floor bedroom and shot up to a second floor bedroom.
The three adult males living in the home got out safely.
Firefighters began with a defensive fire attack and then moved to the interior for an offensive attack. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. The home sustained significant smoke and fire damage.
The Red Cross is assisting all three male occupants with housing
According to fire investigators, the man living in the first floor bedroom said he fell asleep with incense burning.
