GLADSTONE, Mo. — A seven-year-old girl told police that a man chased her down and grabbed her in the 5700 block of N. Flora Avenue at about 9 a.m. on Monday when she was walking to school. The girl told officers that she screamed, and another child started running towards them when the man let her go and ran back into a wooded area near Flora Park.

Police said they searched extensively for the attempted abductor, described as a tall black man who was wearing a green shirt and black pants, but could not find him. As they continue to investigate, officers are increasing patrols in neighborhoods and around schools near times that kids are walking to and from school.

Parents are urged to talk with their kids about what to do in the event of stranger danger, and police say that they should be walking to school in groups, and avoid places in public view.

If you have information about the suspect in this case or about this incident, you are encouraged to call the Gladstone Police Department at (816) 436-3550 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
