INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A woman is dead in Independence and police are investigating her death as a homicide. The crime scene is near East Walnut and Lee's Summit Road.

The Jackson County medical examiner took the woman's body from the home shortly before 10 p.m. and will perform an autopsy. Police remained on scene through the evening investigating.

The victim was identified Wednesday as 57-year-old Holly D. Barnett, of Independence.

FOX 4 is told that police were called to the home a little after 5:30 p.m. and found the woman dead inside. They haven`t said anything about who called them, or how the woman might have been killed.

They also haven`t said whether anyone is custody, but seem like they have a pretty good idea about what happened.

"Right now our detectives are confident that they are working it, and right now we aren`t requesting for any assistance," Officer John Syme said.

Officer Syme said they spoke to neighbors to find out more about the home, as did FOX 4's Dave D'Marko. Neighbors said they saw a lot of activity at the home all hours of the day.
