INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- An Independence woman says a group of men forced their way into her apartment and attacked her.

Police say the assault happened at a complex in the 17000 block of U.S. Highway 24 in Independence. Officers have yet to arrest anyone in this case, and are now asking for your help in finding the men responsible.

Officers say this happened at a complex called Stoneybrook on Tuesday morning between 1 and 3.

The victim told police that four or five men forced their way into her apartment  and raped her. The victim says her attackers covered her face with clothing so she couldn`t clearly see their faces, making it tough for cops to track down the intruders. She was able to describe that one of the men was tall and white, another was a tall black man, and a third was a heavy-set man.

And with those men still on the loose, people who live in the complex are now on high alert.

“It was very unnerving because I have a wife and my daughter was living here up until a few days ago. And to hear that somebody broke in and to rape someone in this building, I`m surprised the landlord hasn`t said anything to us, it`s actually kind of scary,” said neighbor Trasey Green.

“I just recently talked to the manager and I didn`t hear anything, so yeah, it`s very upsetting,” said neighbor Sandra Barnett.

Police want to talk to anyone who thinks they may have seen the suspects. If you have information that will help investigators, call (816) 325-7777 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
