Independence police seek suspect in reported abduction of 12-year-old girl

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Police in Independence are investigating a reported abduction of a 12-year-old girl that happened on Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say officers got in touch with her parents in the 2100 block of S. Hawthorne Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. when she didn’t come home from school immediately.

Following a search, the girl was found and she told officers she had been abducted at about 3:30 p.m. near 23rd Street and Hawthorne by a tall, thin white man with short black hair who was driving white four-door vehicle. She said the man drove her to Blue Ridge Boulevard and Hardy where she was pushed out of the vehicle.

She said afterwards someone gave her a phone so she could call her parents.
