PLEASANT VALLEY, Mo. — One lucky teenage girl got the chance of a lifetime to meet Justin Bieber before his concert at Sprint Center Wednesday night – all thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Sarina Costanzo, 14, is living with cystic fibrosis and said the singer and his music are what motivate her to keep going.
On Thursday, she sat down with FOX 4’s Katie Banks to casually flip through photos on her phone – but these pictures featured one of the most famous faces in the world.
“I said, ‘Can we take another picture?’ And he was like, ‘Well yeah!’ And he took my phone and was like, ‘Selfie!’” she recalled.
It was a selfie with Justin Bieber – something only a few lucky fans in the world can boast!
Throw in lots of free concert goodies, a 30-minute one-on-one hangout session, and lots of hugs, and the Pleasant Valley High School freshman was in Pop Star Heaven.
“I was just so nervous!” Sarina said. “I was shaking so much. I just couldn’t believe that my role model is right in front of me!”
Sarina said Bieber introduced himself to her family and a friend, then gave her an epic hug.
“I cried on his shoulder!” she said, “and he rocked me back and forth, and he was like, ‘Aww, don’t cry!’ because I was, like, bawling, and it was really amazing.”
It was a once-in-a-lifetime meeting made possible by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and served as something to lift Sarina’s spirits as she battles cystic fibrosis. The chronic disease forces her to take more than 50 pills a day, and complete four 30-minute breathing treatments a day.
“Having CF,” Sarina said, “It`s hard to stay motivated to keep trying, and all the medicines that I have to take, it`s really hard, and [Justin Bieber] just, his songs, just inspire me to just never give up on anything.”
Their rendezvous before his Kansas City concert was a special exception for this die-hard fan, even after Bieber canceled all future meet-and-greets on his Purpose Tour. He told Make-A-Wish officials that since he’d already committed to meeting Sarina, he was sticking to it.
“She was hugging him so tightly,” said Sarina’s mom, Loura Miller, “and he never pulled away. He just let her hug him until she was done, and it was a good five minutes.”
She continued, “Even though he doesn’t know her, he probably forgot those five minutes after we walked out of the room, but the impact it has on her will last forever.”
And just when it seemed like nothing could top that hug from the Biebs…
“He kissed my head and I was like, ‘Oh my God! He just kissed me!” Sarina said with a huge grin.
It’s something this Belieber will probably daydream about for the rest of her life.
