ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reporting that Interstate 29 is reopened in Northwest Missouri to the Iowa state line. However, Thursday afternoon they were still encouraging motorists to stay off the road unless it was an emergency.
The Missouri Department of Transportation had reported the shut down of I-29 Thursday morning from I-29 in St. Joseph, Mo., to the Iowa border.
The blizzard and slick conditions made portions of the interstate too dangerous to navigate.
MoDOT said drivers should exit the highway at the next exit and can find shelter there.
Additionally, I-35 and I-70 were closed Thursday for a period of time related to accidents.
I-70 near Oak Grove reopened Thursday at about 10:40 a.m. after a serious accident closed it down for about two hours.
Three tractor-trailer semis were reportedly involved in the accident and forced the closure of all lanes heading westbound.
I-35 closed in the northbound direction at 87th Street Thursday afternoon at about 1 p.m. and opened about an hour later.
