DESOTO, Kan. — A Johnson County elementary school has partnered with a school in Kenya, East Africa. Students at Starside Elementary in DeSoto, Kan., used Skype to connect with pen pals halfway around the world Wednesday morning.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions and learned some things are very similar.
“I thought they would have more wild animals than what they say they have,” said Austin, fifth grader. “They just said they cows and cats and dogs like we do.”
Starside students plan to do what they can to help out students in their sister school in Kenya. They’re holding drives to collect school supplies, first-aid kits and clothes to send to Africa.
