INDEPENDENCE, Mo. --  Bakers had three hours to do their best work in Tuesday's cake decorating competition featuring Hy-Vee bakers.

The creative tension was on display at Independence Center, where they did their work in front of an audience.

The winner of this competition wins $500 and a trip to the finals of the company wide competition.

Entrants were judged on cakes' technical appearance, icing appearance and level of difficulty.

There were some beautiful cakes, but in the end it was Amy Murtha's that the judges liked best.

Amy works at the Belton Hy-Vee.

Congratulations to her!
