KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An apartment fire injured four people Monday morning. It happened at the Gabriel Apartments in the Historic Northeast neighborhood.
“God is on their side cause all you can do is pray,” resident Sarah Williams said.
Williams woke up to a surprise Monday morning. She said she stepped outside and notice an apartment building next to hers was on fire.
KCFD said crews were coming back from another incident when they saw the smoky building.
“When they got on scene they ended up rescuing one from the third floor and three other individuals self-rescued from the incident,” KCFD spokesperson Jason Spreitzer said.
KCFD said the four people that needed to go to the hospital had injuries ranging from smoke inhalation to burns.
The fire department said crews didn’t hear smoke alarms on the scene.
“It happens quite a bit,” Spreitzer said. “All I ask for the public to take a moment. Test their smoke alarms.”
The fire department said there’s moderate damage to the lower levels and heavier damage to the front of the building
The cause and start of the fire is still under investigation.
