KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A large fire at a mulch yard shut down parts of 40 Highway near I-435 early Thursday morning at the Missouri Organic Recycling center.

Smoke and flames could be seen for miles, but no injuries were reported. Fire crews worked throughout the day to keep it contained and extinguished the majority of the area affected.

Officials believe a pile of brush spontaneously combusted, causing the flames to erupt. They said they'll need a few days to determine the official cause of the fire.
