KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A 29-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man is accused of selling counterfeit gold bars on Craigslist and has been charged with felony theft and computer crime in Johnson County, Kan.

Jeremy Michael Kimmel was to appear in court Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

In a news release, the Mission, Kan., Police Department warned people to be wary of gold bars being sold online.

“While we cannot be certain that all of the gold bars are counterfeit, we would encourage individuals who have purchased any via Craigslist to take the item to a reputable gold dealer to check the authenticity of the product.”
