KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating after an officer shot and killed a suspect involved in a domestic disturbance Friday afternoon.

Police said the shooting happened near S. 50th and Vista streets around 3:45 p.m.

According to police, officers were called to the area on a domestic disturbance when a suspect was trying to break into a home. The suspect was shot by a person inside of the house before police arrived.

“A resident of the home actually shot the suspect before officers arrived; that’s why it was upgraded to a shooting call,” said Officer Marshee London with KCKPD.

When police arrived, the man got into an altercation with police and was shot by an officer or officers. The man, who was armed, died at the scene.

Residents in the area were shook up by the incident Friday afternoon.

“I heard several shots. I wasn’t sure if they were fireworks or gunshots,” neighbor Gina Ray said. “This is a really quiet area. We sit outside, and we walk our dogs, kids ride their bikes. This is really disturbing.”

The KCK Police Department, Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office and Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
