Tracking Kansas City, Missouri homicides in 2023

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — FOX4 is tracking homicide cases in Kansas City, Missouri following the previous three deadliest years on record in 2020 (179), 2021 (157), and 2022 (169).

In 2022, Kansas City surpassed 2020’s homicide count in December, setting a second-worst year for homicides.

FOX4 contacted the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office and Kansas City, Missouri Police Department for updates on suspects charged in homicides this year.

The FOX4 Kansas City, Missouri Homicide Tracker is updated weekly. The most recent charges can be found on the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office website.

January – 12 killed

January 8 – Charles Martin, 46, and Tanisha Williams, 35, were shot at a house in the 2000 block of East 73rd Street. Martin died at the scene and Williams later died at a hospital.
January 8 – Amir Moore, 16, shot in the 1600 block of East 77th Terrace. The man later died at a hospital.
January 12 – Jericho Petalino, 30, died in a shooting in the 700 block of Lewis Avenue. Two others were injured in the shooting but were located at an Express Stop at 8501 Winner Road.
January 17 – Adam Blackstock, 24, was found dead inside a car in the 4600 block of Montgall Avenue. Police have not said how he died.
January 17 – Dahrell Johnson, 24, was shot and killed inside a vehicle in the 10300 block of East 42nd Street.
January 19 – Douglas Menser, 66, was fatally shot inside a home in the 7600 block of East 108th Terrace.
January 20 – Bryson Washington, 29, was fatally shot and multiple people were injured in a shooting at Elite Funeral Home at East 115th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard.
January 27 – Mark Young, 31, was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting at a home in the 3400 block of Chestnut Avenue.
January 27 – Gabriel Williams, 35, was shot and killed in front of a home in the 2100 block of East 24th Terrace. Police were looking for a ride-share vehicle that was previously called to the location.
January 30 – Thomas Lewis, 20, was found fatally shot inside a vehicle north of East 55th Street and Cleveland Avenue.
January 31 – D’mitri Carr, 21, was shot and killed inside a vehicle in the 2400 block of Brighton Avenue.

February – 11 killed

February 1 – Markhi A. Williams, 19, was taken to a hospital and later died from their injuries. Police received information that the victim was shot near East Gregory Boulevard and Askew Avenue.
February 2 – Eric J. Allison, 43, was found dead at East Gregory Boulevard and Swope Memorial Drive. Police are investigating the death as a homicide.
February 3 – Alawna Collier, 20, was shot and killed in the parking lot of World Market in the 500 block of Westport Road.
February 4 – Jesus Diaz-Deleon, 26, was killed in a stabbing just before noon in the 3800 block of Bales Avenue.
February 9 – Derrick Rich, 30, and Deondrea Brand, 38, were discovered inside a vehicle in the 5200 block of 28th Terrace. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
February 20 – Leigh Dalton, 44, was found dead near a vacant car wash in the 8300 block of Hickman Mills Drive.
February 20 – Aaron Looney, 41, was shot and killed on the side of the road at East 31st Street and Van Brunt Boulevard.
February 20 – Marcus Bewley-Perez, 24, was found with gunshot wounds inside a crashed car at U.S. 71 North and Red Bridge Road. He died of his injuries three days later.
February 21 – Jamal W. Garcia, 53, was fatally shot in the 3600 block of Wabash Avenue.
February 25 – James Perry, 59, was found dead during a medical call in the 1000 block of East First Street.

March – 19 killed

March 2 – Terrance Blewett, 42, was fatally shot and one person was injured in the 5800 block of East 100th Street.
March 4 – Orlando D. Taylor Jr., 32, was fatally shot at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Highland Avenue.
March 4 – Glen A. Vassie, 60, was fatally shot during a disturbance at a home at East 80th Street and Euclid Avenue.
March 6 – Ricky Hardy, 33, was shot at a bus stop at East 35th Street and Prospect Avenue. He later died from the injuries.
March 11 – Rodney White, 34, was shot and killed inside an apartment building at East 11th Street and Grand Boulevard.
March 11 – Makel Williams, 18, was shot in the 1500 block of West 12th Street. He later died from his injuries.
March 12 – Darryl Brown, 24, was shot and killed inside a home in the 8300 block of Highland Avenue.
March 13 – Trianna Tisdale, 29, was fatally shot near an apartment building at East 115th Terrace and Food Lane.
March 14 – Nehemiah Clark, 65, was fatally shot in the parking lot of Family Dollar at 10445 Blue Ridge Boulevard.
March 14 – Elizabeth Stivers, 31, was strangled in the 4300 block of East 7th Street.
March 15 – Dickens F. Taima, 52, was beaten to death inside an apartment at 2017 East Linwood Boulevard.
March 15 – Abdullahi Yussuf, 30, was found suffering from apparent trauma in the road on Independence Avenue. Court records later said he was shot to death and shoved out of a vehicle.
March 17 – Sylvester L. Roberts, 28, was shot in the 5400 block of The Paseo after an argument at a home. He died from the injuries on March 26.
March 21 – Darrell Weldon, 17, was fatally shot in the 9800 block of Newton Avenue.
March 23 – Oscar Cabral, 18, was found in a ditch in the area of Hillcrest Road and Oldham Road.
March 25 – Jerome Oates, 31, was fatally shot in a parking lot in the 10400 block of East 43rd Street.
March 28 – Donald Young, 23, was shot and killed in the parking lot of a gas station at Independence Avenue and Van Brunt Boulevard.
March 29 – Deonta Words, 28, was shot in the 1300 block of Highland Avenue. He died from the injuries over the weekend.
March 31 – Robert Carter, 64, was found dead in the street in the 3500 block of Roberts Street following a shooting call.

April – 17 killed

April 1 – Raul P. Sanchez, 21, was fatally shot inside a home in the 1800 block of Cambridge Avenue.
April 3 – James Hill Jr., 29, was shot and killed inside Texas Toms at 6950 Prospect Avenue during a possible verbal altercation.
April 4 – Keith Martin, 56, was shot and killed inside an apartment building in the 6400 block of Manchester Avenue.
April 4 – Carl Stewart, 36, was shot and killed at the Days Inn at 8601 Hillcrest Road.
April 8 – Zameyanna Williams, 18, was shot and killed inside a home in the 7800 block of East 48th Street.
April 8 – Mark Bowman, 63, was fatally shot in the 3900 block of South Benton Avenue.
April 10 – Victor Diaz, 16, was shot and killed in the street at East 69th and Bellefontaine Avenue.
April 14 – Michael Frazier, 26, was killed and four people were hurt in a shooting at East 35th Street and Prospect Avenue.
April 15 – Malik Akins, 20, was shot and killed at West 40th Street and Washington Street.
April 15 – Ahmed Simmons, 33, was killed and another man was hurt in a shooting at East 37th and Prospect Avenue.
April 25 – Justin Treadway, 35, was found dead in the street just south of East 41 Street and Spruce Avenue.
April 26 – Anthony Garcia, 22, was shot and killed in the 800 block of Prospect Avenue.
April 27 – Terrell Farrow, 19, was shot and East 33rd Street and U.S. 71 Highway and then taken to Research Medical Center. he died from the injuries on May 3.
April 29 – Deontrey Jones, 28, was fatally shot in the 7200 block of Wabash Avenue.
April 29 – Terry Lovingood, 40, and Joshua Ellison, 29, were shot and killed at East Gregory Boulevard and Prospect Avenue.
April 29 – Jamie Craig, 44, was killed inside an apartment in the 1700 block of East Missouri Avenue.

May – 17 killed

May 7 – Kavon Carter, 17, was shot in the area of East 12th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard. He died from his injuries May 14.
May 20 – Donell James, 23, was shot and killed in the 8600 block of Drury Avenue.
May 21 – Jason McConnell, 41, Antoinette Brenson, 24, and Clarence Henderson, 33, were shot and killed, and two people were injured, at the Klymax Lounge at 4242 Indiana Avenue.
May 22 – Nykolett Schroeder, 24, was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the 9300 block of Bales Drive. Schroeder was transported to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.
May 22 – Keyion Brown, 38, was shot and another person was injured in the area of East 39th Street and South Benton Avenue. Brown was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
May 23 – Zechariah Washington, 16, was shot and killed in the area of East 82nd Place and Forest Avenue.
May 26 – Charles Jones, 18, was fatally shot in the 1200 block of East 83rd Street.
May 28 – Eric Preston, 51, was found dead in the back parking lot of a former Applebee’s restaurant at 4181 Sterling Avenue. Police have not said how he died but his death is being investigated as a homicide.
May 28 – Walter Madge, 59, was shot and killed in the street at East 56th Street and Park Avenue.
May 29 – Wardell Woods, 42, was found dead inside a home in the 5200 block of Walrond Avenue. The cause of death has not been released but police indicate that they are investigating the death as a homicide.
May 29 – Officers responded to the 3600 block of Agnes Avenue. On arrival, officers were advised Deion Miles, 19, was taken from the house near East 31st Street and Prospect Avenue. Miles was taken to the hospital but later died from the injuries.
May 29 – James Allen Jr., 24, was fatally shot inside a car in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Colorado Avenue.
May 29 – Antonio Wells, 33, was shot and killed inside a home at East 25th Street and Wabash Avenue.
May 31 – Officers heard gunshots and found a crashed car in the area of the 3800 block of Northwest 63rd Terrace. Inside the car, officers found Justin Barstow, 34, who had been fatally shot.
May 31 – Gregory Murray Jr., 37, died and two others were injured in a shooting at Family Dollar at East Linwood Boulevard and Troost Avenue.

June – 23 killed

June 3 – Jason Boggs, 46, was shot and killed in a parking lot between 1610 and 1614 Grand Boulevard.
June 5 – DeMarkus Pleasant, 24, was shot and killed in the parking lot of Paseo Fast Stop in the 4500 block of The Paseo.
June 7 – Derrick Thurman, 14, was shot and killed near a home in the 8300 block of Wayne Avenue.
June 7 – Crystal Rayner, 36, was found fatally shot in a car on I-670 West near Broadway Boulevard.
June 12 – Marquece Spencer, 17, was shot and killed inside an apartment in the 5200 block of Oak Leaf Drive.
June 14 – J’rya H. Cockrell, 18, was shot and killed inside a home in the 7400 block of College Avenue.
June 15 – Ryan Bowman, 42, was found shot in the 1300 block of E. 89th Street. He died nearly a week later from his injuries.
June 16 – Terrion Willingham, 25, was shot and killed in the area of 34th and Main Street.
June 16 – Darryl Brown, 39, was shot and killed in the area of 13th Street and Askew Avenue.
June 16 – Dwight Thomas, 47, was found shot at a crash scene at Linwood and Cleveland.
June 17 – Rickey Cubit, 45, was shot to death at 67th and Richmond Avenue. A woman was also found shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
June 19 – Marquis Kindred, 20, was shot and killed at a home on Mersington Court, near East 19th Street and Cleveland Avenue. Another man was found shot and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
June 20 – Barbara Cooper, 37, was shot and killed in the area of 18th Street and Indiana Avenue. Another victim was reported to have non-life threatening injuries.
June 21 – Lezavijon Reynolds, 13, was shot and killed in the 5200 block of East 100th Terrace.
June 23 – Keith Rodgers, 20, was killed in a shooting in the area of E. 41st Street and Benton Boulevard.
June 23 – Cyree Crook, 25, was killed in a shooting in the area of E. 10th Street and Locust Street.
June 25 – Ricky Monroe, 17, was shot at a home near 36th Street and Michigan Avenue and later died at the hospital from his injuries.
June 25 – Ivan Tyson, 37, was shot in the area of 31st and Prospect and later died from his injuries.
June 25 – Three people were killed in a shooting outside a business at 57th and Prospect. They have been identified as 22-year-old Nikko Manning, 28-year-old Jasity Strong, and 29-year-old Camden Brown.
June 30 – Timmy Mitchell, 38, was shot and killed in the area of E. 43rd Street and College Avenue.
June 30 – Donnell Epperson was shot in the area of E. 59th Street and Wabash Avenue and died days later from his injuries.

July – 18 killed

July 2 – Theophlius Johnson III, 26, was killed in a shooting in the 2000 block of Oakley.
July 4 – Jon Rone, 41, was killed following a stabbing at a gas station off East. U.S. Highway 40, just east of S. Noland Road.
July 4 – Ronald Kendall, 41, was killed in a shooting in the area of 85th Street and Woodland Avenue. A teen was also shot and injured.
July 6 – An unidentified man and woman were found dead inside a parked car in the area of N.E. Winn Road and N. College Avenue.
July 10 – Marcos Munoz-Benitez, 49, was shot and killed in the parking lot of a business on U.S. 40 Highway.
July 10 – Samaya Lurks, 18, was shot and killed in the area of E. 26th Street and Lawn Avenue.
July 12 – Phillip Holoman, 62, was shot in a neighborhood near East 45th Street and South Benton Avenue. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
July 13 – Juan Zollar, 47, was shot in the area of Linwood Boulevard and Troost Avenue. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
July 14 – Todd Tillman, 36, was found fatally shot behind a home in the area of 81st Terrace and Tracy Avenue.
July 17 – Anthony Bostic, 44,, was shot dead in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 10300 block of E. 42nd Street.
July 17 – Jami Duncan, 39, was shot and killed inside a home in the 3400 block of E. 54th Street just before 11 p.m.
July 23 – Adan Morales-Alvarado, 16, was killed in a double shooting in the area of 8th and Bales, a few blocks south of Independence Avenue. Angel Macias, 15, died from injuries on Aug. 4
July 24 – Demetrius Lanear, 36, was fatally shot in the area of E. 80th Street and Forest Avenue.
July 24 – Dyelan Mink, 29, was shot and killed in a home in the area of NE 79th Place and Park Avenue.
July 28 – Manuel Valentine-Ruperto, 58, was found lying on a sidewalk dead from a shooting in the area of Roberts Street and Indiana Avenue.
July 31 – Raymond Smith, 62, died in a shooting in the area of 39th Street and Bales Avenue.

August – 14 killed

August 1 – Jesse Thomas, 39, was killed in a shooting in the area of 60th Street and Indiana Avenue.

August 3 – Phillip Roberts, 40, was killed in a shooting in the area of 18th Street and Askew Avenue.

August 5 – KC officers responded to a cutting call in the area of 20th Street and Main Street. A witness told officers the victim, Joshua Mahl, 37, and an unknown suspect were involved in a physical altercation on the bridge when the suspect appeared to strike Mahl with an unknown object. Mahl was taken to the hospital where he later died.

August 6 – Diego Almeda, 15, was killed in a shooting on 71 Highway, just south of 22nd Street.

August 7 – Krystopher McIntosh, 22, was killed in a shooting and was found in the front yard of a home near 59th and Virginia Avenue.

August 9 – Zafir Perkins, 17, was killed in a shooting in the area of E. 9th Street and Wabash Avenue.

August 12 – Michael Cox, 44, was found shot to death inside a vehicle near E. 47th Street and Liberty Avenue. One person was taken into custody.

August 13 – David E. Clark, 44, was killed in a shooting near E. 36th Street and Norton Avenue.

August 17 – –Tywonn S. Greene, 15, was fatally shot in the area of 115th Terrace and Richmond Avenue in south Kansas City.

August 18 – Daniel T. Lainson, 56, was found dead inside a home in the area of NW 88th Street and Broadway Street in the Northland.

August 21 – Stephen C. Carter, 31, was shot and killed outside a laundromat off 7000 Eastwood Trafficway.

August 21 – Rodney Gray, 38, was stabbed to death at an apartment complex in the are of 23rd Street and Wheeling Avenue. One person was detained at the scene.

August 22 – Lambert Smalls, 59, was found in a parking lot with bodily trauma at 1600 Jackson Ave. He died two weeks later from his injuries. The death was ruled a homicide.

August 30 – Joseph Burns, 51, was found dead in the area of E. 29th Street and Prospect Avenue after being shot multiple times.

August 31 – Neal Harris, 55, was shot and killed during a fight outside a home in the 1800 block of E. 67th.

September – 13 killed

September 1 – Robert Gorham, 55, was found with apparent gunshot trauma in a car near 27th and Van Brunt Boulevard. He later died at the hospital on Sept. 1.

September 2 – Dillion Zino, 23, and Steven L. Williams, 28, were shot and killed in a parking lot in the 3100 block of Harrison.

September 2 – Leroy Purkett, 28, was shot and killed during an altercation in the 300 block of Drury Avenue.

September 3 – Antwan Hill, 33, was shot and killed in a park in the area of West 8th and Pennsylvania Ave.

September 6 – Devin Sparkman, 24, was found with gunshot wounds near E. 113th Street and Bristol Terrace. He died two days later.

September 11 – Javon Norfleet, 23, was shot and killed at an apartment in the 3400 block of Wyoming Street.

September 17 – Wysaun Brown-Cooper, 34, was found in a parked vehicle with a gunshot wound at 5719 Jarboe Drive just after 3:30 p.m. He was reported to have died on Sept. 24 from his injuries.

September 18 – Matthew White, 30, was found with multiple gunshots in the entry way of a home near the 3900 block of Benton Ave. One person was taken into custody.

September 22 – Ashli Ehrharrdt, 29, was found dead in a home in the 7900 block of North Forest Ave., just after 10:30 a.m. during a welfare check. Her cause of death has not been released but police are investigating it as a homicide.

September 24 – Joseph Michael Bonacoroso, was shot and killed in a home in the 1300 block of NE 119th Terrace just after 1 a.m. A woman was also found with multiple gunshot wounds

September 29 – Tiffany Johnson, 42, was found with apparent injuries outside an apartment at 5428 Waukomis Drive around 1:50 a.m. She died from the injuries hours later.

September 30 – Phillip Croft, 50, was shot and killed in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Wheeling just before 6 a.m.

October – 11 killed

October 7 – Broderick Brown, 42, was shot and killed inside a business in the 2700 block of Independence Avenue just after 12 p.m. One person was detained.

October 13 – Dennis Jones, 42, was shot and killed inside a home in the 5200 block of College Avenue just after 2:30 a.m.

October 17 – Micah Pattison, 44, was found with gunshot wounds on a sidewalk near 44th and Montgall just after 3 p.m. He was taken to a hospital where he later died. Two people were taken into custody.

October 17 – Ronnisha Danner, 40, was found dead on a sidewalk at 65th and The Paseo just before 9 p.m. Police said she suffered from “apparent bodily trauma.”

October 19 – Roygerick Harris, 33, was killed in a shooting just after 7 p.m. at 31st and Woodland Avenue.

October 21 – Thomas Guiles, 39, was found with gunshot wounds near 18th and Agnes just after 10 a.m. The victim later died at the hospital from injuries.

October 21 – Courtney Wickman, 33, was fatally shot outside a business at 3835 Main Street just after 10:30 p.m. A suspect was identified and charged but was later found dead in Osage County, Kansas.

October 23 – Jo D. Crawford, 26, was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle and later died. Officers located evidence of gunfire at the 4200 block of Benton Boulevard just after 8:30 p.m.

October 26 – Olie Ealom, 37, was shot and killed inside a vehicle near 56th and Park just before 10 p.m.

October 28 – Paulette Barnes, 64, was found dead in an apartment in the 4000 block of E. 56th Terrace during a medical call around 10:15 a.m. Her cause of death has not been released, but police believe it’s likely a homicide.

October 29 – Oshaee Lenee Spinks, 26, was shot and killed in the street just after 7 p.m. in the 3500 block of E. 61st Street.

November – 15 killed

November 3 – Mihail Martinez-Aguilar, 22, was fatally shot at a convenience store in the 4800 block of Independence Avenue just after 3:45 a.m.

November 3 – Aaron Amparan, 15, was killed and two others were injured in a shooting in the 6000 block of E. 13th Street just before 6 p.m.

November 6 – Timothy Postley, 22, was fatally shot near the 900 block of E. Armour Blvd. just after 8:30 p.m.

November 10 – Bryan D. Hoover, 52, was stabbed to death just after 4 a.m. at 24th and Elmwood.

November 13 – Joseph Hill, 18, was shot and killed at 56th and Jackson Avenue.

November 15 – Jomo Wilson, 44, was shot and killed in the 1000 block of Broadway Boulevard just before 3 a.m.

November 16 – DaMarcus Houston, 17, and Marquise Rose, 26, were shot and killed around 9:20 p.m. in nearby parking lots east of 42nd Street and Sterling Avenue.

November 18 – Richard Gonzalez, 31, was shot and killed in the front yard of a home in the 1800 block of Mercier just before 2 a.m.

November 18 – Theus C. Dewberry, 36, was fatally shot behind a home near 24th and Lawn Avenue.

November 21 – Gerald Warren, 61, was killed and an unidentified woman was injured in a shooting just after 11:30 p.m. at a home near E. 70th Street and South Benton Avenue.

November 25 – Derrick White, 16, was shot and killed at a home in the 3200 block of Park Avenue just after 3 p.m. Police later said the shooting was an accident.

November 28 – Calvin Boyles, 45, was shot and killed inside an apartment in the 1930 block of Park Tower Drive just after midnight.

November 28 – Jayden James, 21, was found with gunshot wounds in a yard near the 4900 block of Heritage Avenue just after 4 p.m. He died at the scene.

November 30 – John Buckley, 50, was found inside a home with gunshot wounds in the 11700 block of Troost Avenue just after 3 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A possible suspect was taken into custody.
