UPDATE: Police have identified the victim at the 69th and Bellefontaine homicide as 16-year-old Victor Diaz.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police worked a homicide and a standoff at another shooting scene all within hours Monday.

Police ended the standoff Monday at the scene of a shooting near E. 75th Street and Askew Avenue after officials say no suspects were located inside an apartment.

Officers responded to a medical call just before 4 p.m. in that area where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police are also investigating after one person was shot and killed near East 68th Street and Bellefontaine Avenue.

Kansas City officers were called to the area just after 3:30 p.m. Monday on a reported sound of gunshots. The call was later upgraded to a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim with gunshot wounds in the street. Medics declared the victim dead on the scene.

Officers have not determined what led up to the shooting.

Meanwhile, detectives and crime scene personnel are canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence.
