UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 62-year-old Phillip Holoman.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person has died and another is in custody after a shooting Wednesday in east Kansas City.
Officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting in a neighborhood near East 45th Street and South Benton Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medics took him to a local hospital where he later died.
Police have not released any information about the victim yet.
A Kansas City police spokesperson said officers took one person into custody at the scene.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence and any witnesses.

This is the 106th homicide in Kansas City so far this year, according to Kansas City police data. At this point last year, the city had recorded 80 homicides.
