Kansas City police investigate shooting involving home invasion

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police were sent to a home in the 5000 block of Thompson Avenue on a reported shooting Wednesday morning. According to a dispatcher, two students skipped school and broke into a house where they were fired upon by a homeowner, one was shot in the ankle.

Police say the students were taken into custody when they tried to return to school after the shooting.  FOX 4 has learned that the homeowner was robbed on Tuesday and was alerted to Wednesday's intrusion by his alarm system. The students reportedly attend Northeast High School  and both the high school and Northeast Middle School were placed on lockdown for a brief time.
