KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A winter storm is dropping snow at a heavy clip Thursday morning following a wintry mix overnight. Travel is strongly discouraged, but for those who must commute, FOX4 will provide live coverage of road conditions in the video player and updates about crashes and delays below.

  • Total calls for service so far from state highway patrols — Kansas: 14 crashes, 9 miscellaneous calls, 172 total calls for service. Missouri: 197 service calls, 102 stranded motorists, 45 non-injury crashes, 4 injury crashes with 7 injuries
  • Outside of the immediate KC area, the Missouri Highway Patrol says road conditions are the worst on I-70 between the 50 and 80 mile markers, so just east of Higginsville, and west of the Marshall Junction at US 65
  • The exit to NW Barry Road from SB I-29 is closed due to a crash according to MoDot.
  • NWS employee reports 7.6 inches of snow at The Legends in Wyandotte County
  • NB I-29 at Waukomis has reopened, but it is slow going and will be for some time
  • For those who have at least 6 inches of snow the ground presently, FOX4’s Joe Lauria says you may be measuring 10+ by the end of the storm.
  • More Northland trouble: southbound I-35 is closed at I-435
  • More snow reports: 5 inches from a department of transportation employee off I-35 at 75th in Merriam
  • 18 cancellations, 10 delays at KCI, check flight status here
  • In addition to I-29 being closed downstream, as you work your way toward the airport, traffic is at a standstill
  • KC Scout shows northbound I-29 past Waukomis is CLOSED
  • MoDOT reports the exit from southbound I-35 to southbound I-435 is closed near Pleasant Valley in Clay County.
  • If you get in a crash in Overland Park, the police department has activated its walk-in report protocol
  • A reminder for Kansas City residents: Trash pickup is suspended until Tuesday
  • The National Weather Service says an observer at KCI is reporting 3 inches of snow at the airport
  • RideKC warns that most routes are operating on a significant delay
  • Kansas City International Airport already has 12 cancellations, keep up with flight statuses on its website
  • FOX4’s Nick Vasos reports a multi-vehicle crash on I-29 is backing up traffic past 169 Highway.
  • KC Scout shows at least a dozen incidents impacting highway and interstate travel at 6:45 a.m., a majority of them are crashes
