LAS VEGAS — A Kansas man appeared in court Wednesday for the robbery of the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas.
Police arrested Scott Carmitchel, 34, on Friday after detectives said he robbed a casino cashier of $43,500 at gunpoint. However, detectives said Carmitchel then used the money, still in its Bellagio wrappers to pay prostitutes at a different hotel.
Carmitchel at first refused to appear in a Clark County, Nevada court, according to FOX 5 in Las Vegas. He was wheeled into court covered in a blanket and had something wrapped around his face. He refused to open his eyes or speak to the judge when asked questions.
Carmitchel was convicted in 1998 of a Johnson County, Kan. robbery and battery of a law enforcement officer.
According to Kansas Dept. of Corrections records, he was paroled in Douglas County, Kan. in Dec. 2013.
