WELLINGTON, Kan. —  Mike Wilmoth is a high school social studies teacher in Kansas. He has refereed little league football as well as two Division II championships over the last 36 years.

Wilmoth says the experience being a replacement ref in the NFL was pretty cool. Even though the refs were highly criticized he feels everyone did the best job they could.

“Thousands of plays were called exactly right, dozen, two dozen that have made the highlights really hurt us,” he said.

He is back in class as well as back on the high school football field.

The NFL’s real referees returned to the field this week and will vote on a new contract deal.
