KANSAS CITY, Mo. –A local group hit the courthouse steps Thursday for a man they believe is wrongly convicted of first-degree murder.

The “KC Freedom Project” believes Keith Carnes is innocent and they want the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office to reopen his case.

Carnes was convicted of shooting and killing another man in 2005, but the “KC Freedom Project” says there’s new evidence that proves Carnes is innocent.

During the rally, group members spoke about Carnes’ case to anyone who would listen and gave reasons why they believe he was wrongly convicted.

The group submitted his case to the prosecutor’s office for review a few months ago. They say representatives from the office keep them up to date on the process, which can take a while.
